Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020
A dramatic nighttime concert stage fills the frame, dominated by an elaborate arrangement of electronic drum pads mounted on curved metallic arms that sweep upward and outward like the branches of a luminous tree, each circular drum pad, numbering approximately twelve visible units, features a bright ring of cool turquoise-cyan LED light encircling its playing surface, creating halos of electric blue illumination against the deep black background, the drums vary in size from smaller pads roughly the diameter of dinner plates to larger surfaces approaching the size of serving platters, arranged at different heights and angles to create a three-dimensional performance space, at center right stands a bearded performer in dark sleeveless attire, positioned at an elevated platform behind a horizontal playing surface, his profile visible against swirling clouds of theatrical smoke, the atmospheric haze dominates the upper left portion of the composition, billowing in horizontal streams colored in soft magenta, orchid pink, and violet tones that contrast beautifully with the cool blue instrument lighting, warm amber and orange accent lights glow from various points on the right side of the installation, adding thermal variety to the predominantly cool palette, the overall feeling suggests a cool evening atmosphere charged with creative energy, the smoke carrying an implied humidity and density, the metallic framework of the drum mounting system appears industrial yet elegant, finished in dark tones with occasional red accent pieces visible, the entire installation creates an immersive cocoon of light and sound technology surrounding the performer.
Inspired by a gyrosphere. the show combines a number of elements that together create an extraordinary experience. The installation changes its shape and creates a dynamic environment for the drummer to perform in. Edrum breaks the barrier between sound light and space, each note translates into light.
