Skyboat Cafe and WalkOn Glass

A dramatic architectural photograph captures an observation structure perched atop a forested mountain ridge, extending outward above an ocean of white clouds. Scanning from background to foreground, the upper portion presents a luminous pearl-grey sky gradually darkening toward the horizon, where a series of mountain silhouettes emerge from the mist in layered succession, each range appearing progressively darker and more defined as it approaches. Emerging from this ridge and extending dramatically into the void, the Skyboat Cafe structure appears as a elongated crystalline form with a gently curving spine. The structure features a transparent glass-enclosed main pavilion housing warm honey-toned wooden deck surfaces, while steel framework painted in silver-white creates a delicate skeletal armature. The extended observation arm reaches rightward like a ship's prow, its glass floor allowing visitors to gaze directly into the cloud depths below. The overall sensation evokes cool mountain air carrying moisture from the clouds, the silence of high-altitude environments broken perhaps only by wind, and the slight chill of standing at such exposed heights. The architecture provides an intimate warm refuge amidst the vast atmospheric expanse, inviting contemplation of the boundary between solid earth and infinite sky.

The structure cantilevers 36m over the 613m deep sinkhole. The top of the sinkhole is extremely narrow which can only accommodate a small passageway. Skyboat is proposed to span over the passageway and cantilever out to each side of the mountain ridge. Similar to the tumbler toys, it is proposed to lower the structure centre of gravity and utilize the minimum area (10metres by 30metres), in which way, the self-balance of the structure is therefore achieved.
