Kaisa Yuebanshan Community Center

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022

This architectural photograph presents a contemporary community center building rendered predominantly in white, captured in landscape format with expansive proportions suggesting approximately twice the width of its height. Beginning with the background, a gently forested hillside rises in soft blue-green tones, suggesting considerable distance, topped by a sky of pale cerulean blue with scattered white clouds like soft cotton floating across the upper portion. Moving to the middle ground, the primary architectural subject commands attention: a substantial white building featuring smooth, matte surfaces that feel cool and chalky to imagine touching. The structure's most distinctive feature appears in its upper register, where three large arched openings cut through the white wall, their curves like segments of great circles creating deep shadowed recesses that suggest spaces of shelter beyond. To the left stands a mature deciduous tree, its trunk dark brown with roughly textured bark, its canopy full and rounded with countless small leaves in fresh spring green that catch light like thousands of tiny emerald chips. A second, more delicate tree rises before the building's center, its branches more sparse and graceful, appearing younger with lighter, more yellow-green foliage. The foreground presents a layered landscape moving from closest to farthest: first, a broad expanse of smooth lawn grass in vibrant grass-green, cool and fresh as a spring meadow. This transitions into a precisely trimmed hedge border, its dense small-leafed surface appearing as textured as thick velvet, running horizontally across nearly the full width. Beyond the hedge, additional ornamental plantings including what appear to be palms and flowering shrubs add variety in deeper greens and touches of magenta. The overall atmosphere feels tranquil and temperate, suggesting a pleasant subtropical morning with gentle warmth and clear visibility.

The Life Aesthetics Pavilion is inspired by the traditional ancient buildings of Lingnan, borrowing the height difference of the site to create a fenced house under the mountain. At the same time, the mountain view resources on the north and south sides are infiltrated, the building is integrated with the surrounding environment, and the mountain view penetrates from it, and the building becomes a part of the landscape as if it grows naturally. Mountain views are incorporated into the life scenes of residents, bringing the distance between man and nature closer.
