Coastal Pavilion

This architectural photograph presents the Coastal Mansion Pavilion designed by Zhubo Design CO., LTD., captured at twilight when artificial illumination creates maximum visual impact against the darkening sky. The image format is landscape orientation, depicting a modern building with a dramatically illuminated upper volume and transparent glass base. Beginning with the background, a gradient evening sky transitions from pale blue-gray at upper left to deeper slate blue at upper right, establishing the crepuscular atmospheric condition. The architectural composition occupies the central and lower portions of the frame. The dominant feature is a large rectangular volume positioned in the upper half, its facade consisting of horizontal illuminated panels arranged in a rhythmic grid pattern, these panels emit light ranging from cool violet tones at the outer edges through brilliant electric blue at center, creating a gradient effect reminiscent of deep ocean water catching light. This illuminated volume extends forward in a pronounced cantilever over the spaces below, supported by dark bronze-toned structural framework that creates strong linear contrast. Beneath this glowing crown, a two-story glass curtain wall provides transparency into warmly lit interior spaces, with recessed ceiling fixtures creating golden pools of illumination within. The ground level features a central double-door entry framed by dark metal mullions. Flanking this entry axis symmetrically, mature cycad palms with thick textured trunks and feathery fronds rise to approximately one-third the building height, their foliage catching accent uplighting in warm red and green hues. Small white sculptural figures depicting stylized fish forms are positioned in landscaped beds before the entry, adding playful coastal reference. The surrounding landscape includes low hedging, illuminated water features at left, and additional tropical vegetation creating verdant borders.

The project stands on the shore of Xiamen Tong'anwan Bay. From the start to the completion, the architects tried to respond to two questions: firstly, how to deal with the relationship between architecture and site; secondly, how to maximize the public coastal space. The design highlights the architecture to provide spaces for people’s public activities. The key point of the project design was how to endow the building with a public attribute.
