Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
Entering this entertainment venue lobby designed by Oft Interiors Ltd., visitors encounter a dramatic double-height space dominated by sculptural copper-toned ceiling elements that sweep and curve across the overhead plane like flowing ribbons. Scanning from above downward, the ceiling presents alternating horizontal bands of dark grey textured panels with subtle striations, suggesting concrete or stone-like surfaces that feel cool and substantial. Threading through this dark field, ribbon-like forms clad in warm copper metal with the color of aged bronze or terracotta pottery create serpentine paths, their edges outlined by glowing white LED strips that trace continuous luminous lines against the darkness. These copper elements feel smooth and warm to the touch, metallic yet inviting, their surfaces catching and reflecting ambient light. The ceiling also incorporates reflective mirror panels that double the ribbon installation, creating an impression of infinite continuation upward. Looking toward the middle distance at human scale, the left side reveals a curved service counter with dark cabinetry and a grey-veined stone top, its copper footrail adding warmth. The central corridor extends toward illuminated green-tinted vertical panels that glow like backlit jade or sea glass, suggesting portals to spaces beyond. To the right, a seating area with tall stools faces a large screen displaying figures in blue-toned light. The floor beneath consists of polished tiles in alternating warm cream and cool grey tones, arranged in gentle curves that echo the ceiling patterns above, their surface smooth and reflective like polished stone, creating sense of guided movement through the space. The atmosphere feels theatrical and anticipatory, the cool greys creating a sense of evening calm while the copper warmth suggests intimate gathering, the whole environment hovering between grand public scale and welcoming intimacy.
In this cinema, the Oft Interiors team conducted an in-depth discussion on the younger’s consumption and the economy of appearance and brought new business model thinking for the 10-year-old shopping mall. At the beginning of the reconstruction, the design team firstly analyzed and sorted out the geographical location, original building features, consumption format, project positioning, consumer groups, project types and difficulties of reconstruction, and so on, comprehensively deconstructing the cinema.
