Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
An architectural visualization presents a contemporary mixed-use development viewed from ground level within a spacious urban plaza, scanning from left to right across the scene. The dominant structure occupying the central and left portions of the composition features a dramatic curvilinear façade composed of flowing horizontal bands in pristine white, reminiscent of smooth ribbons or layered sedimentary rock formations carved by water. These bands sweep and curve organically, creating a sense of frozen movement or fluid dynamics captured in solid form. The material appears smooth and satiny to the touch, like polished aluminum or coated metal panels catching soft daylight. Behind and above this sculptural retail podium rise several residential towers of varying heights, their surfaces cooler in tone with blue-gray glass and concrete creating a rhythm of windows and balconies extending toward a pale sky washed with gentle clouds. The plaza surface beneath the viewer's feet would feel like smooth stone, warm from sunlight, rendered in cream and golden tones suggesting polished granite or travertine. Numerous figures populate this generous public space, appearing at roughly one-twentieth to one-tenth the height of the main structure, some walking in pairs or groups, others pausing to observe the architecture or photograph the scene. To the right portion of the composition, angular white structural supports create dynamic diagonal lines, while a water feature with active fountain jets sends vertical streams upward, suggesting the cooling sound of splashing water and perhaps a slight mist on the skin. The overall atmosphere feels bright, warm, and inviting, with soft shadows indicating midday sun from an elevated position creating gentle modeling across the curved surfaces while leaving the plaza bathed in comfortable luminosity.
A One is Chongqing's future landmark, embracing energy, arts and prosperity. Located in the heart of Chongqing's financial district, the project is surrounded on three sides by parks with a commanding 270 degree view of the river. The project is envisioned to be a "City in the Clouds"- with the "clouds" being interpreted as the podium, which brings together the complexities of various functions behind a combination of horizontal metal lines and ultra-clear glass, creating a backdrop of light, shadows, reflections that changes throughout the day.
