Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
This interior presents a grand double-height exhibition space oriented in landscape format, dominated by warm neutral tones punctuated by rich red accents. Beginning at the upper zone, a monumental suspended installation descends from a warm taupe ceiling, composed of thousands of fine threads creating a funnel or vessel shape, the fibers transitioning from pale cream at top through soft blush pink to gentle coral near the bottom, suggesting the delicacy of silk or the ephemeral quality of mist rising from water. Linear bands of soft amber light run along ceiling coves, creating horizontal emphasis. The left wall features an elaborate grid system of wooden display niches with a rhythmic pattern of small square perforations creating visual texture like woven fabric, housing pale ceramic vessels and sculptural objects arranged with museum-like precision. Moving to the center foreground, a generous L-shaped sofa in warm ivory fabric anchors a seating area upon a large rectangular carpet that feels like worn velvet in deep vermillion and burgundy tones, rich as aged wine with subtle variations suggesting years of gentle use. A sculptural lounge chair resembling an unfurling flower petal in deep crimson sits to the right, its organic curves suggesting soft, embracing comfort. A round wooden coffee table with ribbed base holds books and a vessel of autumn branches with orange-red foliage. The right portion features floor-to-ceiling panels of glass blocks creating luminous columns of diffused light, cool and crystalline against the warmth elsewhere, with vertical wooden shelving elements displaying decorative objects. In the middle ground, a dining area with dusty rose chairs gathers beneath dark sculptural wall elements suggesting abstracted organic forms. The floor throughout appears as polished charcoal stone, smooth and cool underfoot, reflecting light sources and furniture silhouettes. The atmosphere suggests serene warmth, the quiet of a sanctuary, with an implied stillness broken only by the imagined whisper of threads swaying imperceptibly in gentle air currents.
Drawing inspirations and imaginations from nature and local customs, Romantic Bluemoon has created a space which integrates profound culture and boundless art with modern design skills in the project. The designer has skillfully chosen black, red and cyan to arrange the screens, flowers, porcelain, art sculpture and silverware, and techniques like fabric weaving, rattan weaving and wood engraving are employed to outline an elegant cultural space.
