Zhangtai Haitang Bay Sales Center

Listeners may envision a grand interior space approximately twelve meters wide and extending into soft grey distance, dominated by a sweeping white sculptural staircase positioned right of center that curves upward through an irregular oval opening in the ceiling above. Beginning at floor level, the staircase emerges from a smooth curved white wall that feels like polished plaster, cool and seamless to the touch, with the wall rising approximately one meter high as a protective balustrade that flows continuously around the ascending spiral. The treads themselves are pale grey marble with subtle darker veining, suggesting the cool smooth surface of polished stone underfoot, each step approximately thirty centimeters deep and three meters wide. Moving upward from the floor plane, the eye follows the elegant helical curve as it rotates counterclockwise, the white balustrade wall maintaining constant height while curving with the organic grace of a seashell or unfurling silk ribbon. Above, the ceiling presents as a continuous white plane interrupted by the large biomorphic aperture through which the staircase passes, this opening shaped like an asymmetrical organic form, perhaps fifteen meters long and eight meters wide, through which soft diffused light pours downward, creating the sensation of warmth one associates with indirect daylight filtering through clouds. To the left side of the composition, two cylindrical columns of dove grey concrete, each approximately sixty centimeters in diameter, rise from floor to ceiling, their surfaces suggesting the slightly cool, slightly rough texture of formed concrete. The floor throughout appears as polished terrazzo or concrete in warm taupe, a tone like weathered driftwood or dried clay, extending into shadows at the periphery where the space recedes into contemplative dimness. The overall atmosphere suggests temple-like quietude, the air feeling still and temperature-neutral, with no implied sounds beyond the subtle resonance of footsteps one might imagine ascending the sculptural stair toward the luminous void above.

The Haitang Bay project of Zhangtai Group is located in Beihai, Guangxi. In the design of this case, the 31 Design team follows the concept of merging design elements into the surrounding. Except for a combination of architectural structures and beautiful sea views, the design team profoundly redefines the concept of a real estate sales center and reshapes the business culture. The interior design gets rid of the conventional impression of sales center with no more stereotypical commercial features. A vivid, situational and artistic scene is created to bring space, nature and people closer.
